And.. it’s done!

For the 2nd consecutive year, I managed to fulfill the challenge of watching 31 horror movies I’ve never seen before all through October to celebrate the Halloween spirit during the entire month.

Here’s the list in chronological order in case you want to check them out yourself:

The hands of Orlac (1924)

The Phantom of the Opera (1925)

The man who laughs (1928)

The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

Cat People (1942)

Dead of night (1945)

Them! (1954)

House on haunted hill (1959)

Eyes without a face (1960)

Peeping Tom (1960)

Black Sunday (1960)

The Innocents (1961)

The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971)

Don’t look now (1973)

Black Christmas (1974)

The hills have eyes (1977)

Zombi 2 (1979)

The Brood (1979)

Phantasm (1979)

The Changeling (1980)

Dressed to kill (1980)

The Fog (1980)

Altered states (1980)

Children of the Corn (1984)

Henry: portrait of a serial killer (1986)

Prince of Darkness (1987)

The Vanishing (1988)

The Blob (1988)

Candyman (1992)

Cronos (1993)

Ringu (1998)

And as promised, here were my favorites / personal recommendations:

I will start by recommending The Innocents (1961). I still haven’t been able to shake this film from my mind, and I’m dying to watch it again as soon as possible. Although it has some supernatural elements, it’s mostly psychological horror, so if that’s not your cup of tea, you might not enjoy it as much. Still, I would say: give it a chance! It’s a masterpiece.

The second film to stay with me this year is definitely Peeping Tom (1960). It’s visually stunning, incredibly heartbreaking and morally challenging. A great film that will probably haunt you once it’s over. Something similar could be said about The man who laughs (1928), which might not have that many stereotypically ‘horror’ elements, but was still one of the most memorable and moving films of this year’s selection.

And finally, make sure you check out Candyman (1992) and Ringu (1998), two classics that definitely deserve the attention they get.

I hope you had a great Halloween. See you next October!
